Commercial drone use is growing immensely and over the next 10 years, it could be an 82 billion dollar industry and generate 100,000 new jobs

“What we can do with a drone today rivals anything that could’ve been done in Hollywood as little as 10 years ago,” Virtuance co-founder and CEO Jeff Corn said. “And we can do it with one person flying with a remote control in 10 minutes.” With this expected growth, the Federal Aviation Administration announced new rules that affect commercial drone pilots.

Starting immediately, all commercial drone pilots must comply with the following rules:

• Must be 16 years or older and pass a background check
• Commercial drones must weigh less than 55 pounds
• Drones cannot fly higher than 400 feet and cannot go faster than 100 mph
• Commercial drone pilots must maintain visual contact with the drone at all times

One critical factor that was left out of the new rules is regarding insurance. Commercial pilots are not required to carry insurance, which could cause financial headaches for the pilot, the homeowner, and the agent or broker.  Virtuance and Virtuance’s pilots are fully licensed, FAA compliant, and carry aviation insurance.
