Especially stranger salespeople. You expect resistance on their part and think, before you\u2019ve made the call, that they are predisposed to say \u201cno.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>How do you overcome this?<\/p>\n<h2><strong>Keeping a positive mindset<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>Your mindset is the key factor that will determine your success as a cold caller. It doesn\u2019t matter how many scripts you study, how many\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inman.com\/2017\/03\/07\/21-common-objections-handle-real-estate-agents\/\">objections you practice handling<\/a>\u00a0or how much research you do on your leads. If you don\u2019t have the right mindset, you won\u2019t be successful on your calls.<\/p>\n<p>The critical element is\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inman.com\/2018\/07\/30\/watch-how-to-build-a-real-estate-empire-out-of-positivity\/\">positivity<\/a>. Staying positive about your role and about the disposition of the lead is paramount. What this means is that you need to be telling yourself the right things about what you\u2019re doing and what you are trying to accomplish.<\/p>\n<div class=\"post-inner clearing\">\n<div class=\"post-info\">\n<div class=\"excerpt\">appetite to grow\u00a0<span class=\"iasp-read-more\">READ MORE<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>Because let\u2019s face it, our heads are filled with negativity when it comes to cold calling. It has an almost visceral negative connotation. Put that to bed for you and anyone you have working for you.<\/p>\n<p>If you have good vibes in your head \u2014 if cold calling has a positive connotation \u2014 you will be unstoppable. If you have negative thoughts about cold calling, lead generation, setting appointments, etc., then no matter what you do or say, you won\u2019t cold call successfully or generate leads.<\/p>\n<p>Here are three things you can do to help cultivate a positive mindset:<\/p>\n<ol>\n<li>Know and understand the benefits you bring to every person\u00a0<em>before<\/em>\u00a0you dial them. Know what you are offering them and how it is going to palpably improve their lives.<\/li>\n<li>Live and breathe mantras like, \u201cThey are waiting for my call,\u201d or \u201cThey need my help.\u201d Repeat these between each dial to keep your energy up on your entire list of leads.<\/li>\n<li>When you feel yourself becoming negative, take a break and focus on your commitment to helping others. Remember, prospects are benefitting from your call because what you are offering is valuable to them.<\/li>\n<\/ol>\n<h2><strong>Entering your call confidently<\/strong><\/h2>\n<p>This may seem obvious, but if you don\u2019t project confidence when you get on the call, you will not be successful. This means that when the lead picks up the phone, you speak to the person who answered as though you know exactly who he or she is.<\/p>\n<p>Believe me, they will tell you if they are not the right person. Quickly identify who you are and ask your most important question, usually some form of \u201cAre you buying\/selling a home?\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Remember, you are a stranger, and most people typically do not want to talk to strangers on the phone. So you are fighting an uphill battle.<\/p>\n<p>The minute you hesitate, the minute you sound like you don\u2019t know exactly what you are talking about, or the minute you sound like you don\u2019t want to be on phone, you have given them the excuse they are looking for to hang up.<\/p>\n<p>So build a positive mindset before the call, and use that positivity to enter the call\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inman.com\/2015\/10\/21\/podcast-12-ways-to-boost-your-confidence-in-real-estate\/\">confidently<\/a>\u00a0and with a sense of purpose. Remember, they need you, and you are helping them.<\/p>\n<p>Have the attitude and sense that you belong on that phone with that person and that you are making his or her live easier.
