It was a time when getting a \u201cdeal\u201d meant winning a bidding war or making an offer before anyone else even knew a property was available.<\/p>\n<h3>But with the\u00a0market shifting\u00a0in favor of buyers in a growing number of places around the country, the days of the ubiquitous pocket listing may be numbered.<\/h3>\n<p>Though the practice of withholding a property from multiple listing services likely won\u2019t disappear entirely, real estate professionals from across the U.S. said this week that pocket listings may play a diminished or more specialized role in the future.<\/p>\n<div id=\"attachment_699901\" class=\"wp-caption alignright\">\n<div class=\"empty\">\n<p class=\"wp-caption-text\">\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<p>\u201cIt obviously doesn\u2019t work as well when there\u2019s less demand and less inventory,\u201d\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inman.com\/innovators-2017\/gary-gold\/\">Gary Gold<\/a>, a Los Angeles-based Realtor with Hilton &amp; Hyland told Inman, \u201cIn a buyers market, does a pocket listing make as much sense? No, it doesn\u2019t.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Pocket listings \u2014 also sometimes known as whisper or pre-market listings \u2014\u00a0have\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.inman.com\/2018\/06\/15\/why-is-everyone-talking-about-pocket-listings\/\">garnered considerable attention in recent months<\/a>\u00a0as a way to generate buzz. They were so popular that they\u00a0were the target of criticism from Redfin\u00a0and\u00a0landed on the radar\u00a0of the Department of Justice.
